Ok I have decided to do a blog once a week as I dont always have time to update every day and I have tried to write this post three times and every time I do something happens like, the kids fighting over a blue crayon or fighting over the colour of a silly ikea plate and so on.
This week I decided to have a rant about childrens exams because my 11 year old daughter is currently sitting her year 6 sats.
I have been relatively lucky as my daughter hasn't stressed out over these tests but I do know that plenty of children have. I think its a disgrace to have children so young suffering anxiety and put under so much pressure all so the government can see how well the school is performing. Shouldn't the children be asessed all throughout the year and make the tests less stressful by making it casual.
When I was in primary school I dont remember it being a very big deal or maybe I just wasn't that bothered, I mean I have to admit I was never very bright and was always a bit of a dreamer when it came to school and so easily distracted, any time a test was put in front of me I would fall apart and worry that I wouldn't do good enough. Why are children being made to feel this way, we have so much to worry about when we become adults that children should be worry free and enjoying the very short childhood they have already, it seems children are growing up quicker these days as it is.
It came to my attention recently the year 2 SATS are to be abolished soon, well finally, when my eldest went into year 2 and I was told she would be sitting SATS, I was astonished, "how can a 7 year old be made to sit and do exams under pressure?"
For almost all of the school year my daughters school work has been in preperation for her year 6 SATS, it has been spoken about almost every day in school which means nearly most of the fun of primary school has been taken away. My daughter loved every second of school before going into year 6, at the end of the school holidays she couldn't get back to school quick enough. This year she never seems as enthusiastic about school, Im not blaming the fact that she has been doing SATS because obviously shes getting older (hormonal) and things change but I do think it is a factor of it. I can't fault the school as her teacher has been very supportive and the rest of the school staff have been very good. I just wish the government would take their heads out of their arses and realise they are young children, just let them have one last year to be children before high school when things really do get serious.
Well its now friday and from what i've seen all the children have made it through in one piece, this year anyway.
Theres no guarantees for next year as the way things are going they will be sitting GCSE levels in primary schools soon. Our future children have no chance!!!
